1997 OSU Ohio State Buckeyes Game Used & Signed Rose Bowl Football Arizona State

Description: This is 1 of the 6 game used footballs from the 1997 Rose Bowl clash between The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Arizona State Sun Devils. This game was long before the BCS championship. Arizona State was trying to lay claim to its national championship hopes, but Ohio State had other plans. It was a thrilling contest with many stars. ASU had their sensational quarterback Jake "The Snake" Plummer and their all American defender Pat Tillman (who later went on to serve his country after 9/11). The Rose Bowl had 6 footballs that were used for the game. It is customary for the head referee to make marks or notations on the balls so that he will be able to recognize the ball, in case one of the teams try to switch the balls, after he approves them. You can see some purple Sharpie type marks on this ball, which are presumably from the head referee. You can actually match these marks and 2 of the noticeable scuffs on the ball with photos of Jake Plummer, late in the game, holding & running with the ball. The 3rd photo I posted of Plummer is from early in the game, when the ball is nice and clean, without the scuffs. The ball was signed after the game by Ohio State head coach John Cooper, and Ohio State players: #85 TE John Lumpkin, #15 WR Dee Miller, #35 LB Jerry Rudzinski, and Rose Bowl MVP #7 QB Joe Germaine, who added "Go Bucks". The ball is in good condition. It is obviously game used and shows wear and tear, including marks, scuffs, and scratches. It will no longer hold its full complement of air. It will hold about 75% air capacity. It is good enough to sit nicely on a desk and not roll over. This is a cool piece of Rose Bowl, Ohio State, Arizona State, Big Ten, and Pac 10 history.
