Gennady Rozhdestvensky, conductor, with his wife, pianist Viktoria Postnikova, at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center. Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and the New York Philharmonic will collaborate to offer ten concerts by six major symphony orchestras, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the London Sinfonietta in their New York debut, the Chicago Symphony, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal and the Saint Louis Symphony, at Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall as part of this summer's First New York International Festival of the Arts. Highlighting the concerts, which will take place from Tuesday June 14 through Saturday July 9, 1988, will be three premieres: the world premiere of Joseph Schwantner's Piano Concerto, which was commissioned especially for The New York International Festival of the Arts by The Chase Manhattan Bank; the New York premiere of Janacek's Danube and the New York premiere of a new work by Alfred Schnittke.
