Description: The debate over Michael Jordan's RC doesn't look like it's going to slow anytime soon, with plenty of collectors making their case for the iconic 1986 Fleer #57 and MJ's selection of Star cards that preceeded it. Those who take a stand for the star's Star issues often point to this 1984 Star #101 as the one to target. After Topps left the basketball card industry following its 1981-82 release, the only licensed NBA cards on the market from 1983-85 came from the Star Company. Star did not produce large quantities of its cards and did not distribute them through the same channels as Topps. Instead, Star packaged the cards in clear plastic bags as team sets or complete subsets, rather than including a random assortment of cards from the checklist in wax packs. The company then sent the poly bags to dealers and accepted mail orders from around the country. Further complicating the matter for Jordan collectors, MJ's card laid atop the Bulls team sets, subjecting it to damage from shifting, stacking, etc., at the hands of employees and collectors who handled the cards.
