Description: This 1981 set of unused Space Achievement 18 cent vintage US postagestamps in USPS commemorate issue book.. These stamps were issued onMay 21st, 1981 at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. They were designed byRobert T. McCall and modeled by Clarance Holbert. Each stamp depictsvarious space exploration images. Four large stamps make up a center “main”picture acting as a space shuttle commemorative and each corner holdsa smaller space stamp.The four large stamps show the US Space Shuttle in different modes of operation.The main theme involves the first actual “in space” flights of the space shuttle whilealso paying tribute to 20 years of manned U.S. Space Exploration.The smaller stamps honor the efforts of those that took part in the Moonwalk, Skylab, and the Pioneer space missions.The large stamps read “Benefiting Mankind” in white with “USA 18c” in black. Thesmaller stamps all have “USA 18c” in white. Each one of the four pictures hasa different name written in black. They are: “Exploring Moon”; “Understanding the Sun”;“Probing the Planets”; and “Comprehending the Sun.”Each large stamp measures 1 1/4" tall by 1 1/2" wide (3.2cm x 3.8cm) . The smallerstamps measure 1 1/4" tall x 1" wide (3.2cm x 2.5cm) . The full sheet measures9" tall x 10 1/4" wide (22.9cm x 26.0cm) .These stamps are “mint” – meaning they have never been used. All perforations areintact. They have the original glue and are sealed in the USPS limited edition Space Book.Included professionally framed and matted is the original USPS poster showing thecommemorative stamps, it is folded so the stamps do not appear, but when unfolded appears as follows:It is in sealed condition taken straight from display at the post office and was professionally matted andframed in a custom Nelson arts aluminum frame. The frame is now worth $300 and at the time paid about $100 for the matting and frame. This is a one of a kind offer and the posters were extremely rare with only some of the post offices having received them for display. Almost all of these were torn or were destroyed. This is a beautiful item to display in a home or office for a Space Lover and it is absolutely an investment grade collectible that will only go up in value.
