She gained prominence as the original Cinderella in the Sondheim – Lapine musical “Into the Woods”. But let’s rewind to her earlier days: Early Life and Education: Kim Crosby was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and grew up in Springfield, Missouri. She attended Southern Methodist University and the Manhattan School of Music. Interestingly, she was also a former America’s Junior Miss12. Stage Career: In 1985–86, Crosby appeared in the Broadway production of “Jerry’s Girls”. Her breakthrough came when she originated the role of Cinderella in “Into the Woods” in 1987. She played the role during the tryout at The Old Globe Theatre in San Diego and then on Broadway. During this production, she met her future husband, actor Robert Westenberg, who portrayed Cinderella’s Prince (and also the Wolf). Crosby’s other Broadway roles include being a replacement as Sarah Brown in the 1992 revival of “Guys and Dolls”. She reprised the role of Cinderella in a benefit performance of “Into the Woods” in 19971. Off-Broadway and Regional Work: Off-Broadway, she played various roles, including Anne Boleyn, Catherine Howard, and Jane Seymour in the musical “Six Wives”. In regional theatre, she starred as Laurey in the national tour of “Oklahoma!” and played Eliza Doolittle in “My Fair Lady”. Her performances were celebrated for their vocal prowess and emotional depth1. Recent Roles: Crosby portrayed Sally Durant Plummer in “Follies” (2005) with the Barrington Stage Company. She continues to contribute to the world of musical theatre, leaving her mark on stages across the country1. Kim Crosby’s journey from America’s Junior Miss to the bright lights of Broadway showcases her talent and dedication to the arts.
