1979 Greco Super Sound SE600 Vintage S-Style Olympic White Japan Fujigen

Description: Up for sale, a 1979 Greco Super Sound model SE600. In many ways the predecessor of the Fender Japan JV Strats, the “Super Sound” Greco S-style models were produced throughout the late ‘70s at the venerable Fujigen factory, just a few short years before Fujigen Gakki signed their deal with Fender. This SE600 features a sen ash body and a maple neck capped with a rosewood fretboard, yielding a lively, articulate acoustic profile with a certain inherent midrange heft and cut faithfully captured by the stock trio of Maxon PU-100 black bobbin single coil pickups. These pickups deliver an array of classic Strat tonalities via the three-way pickup selector switch, with cutting sparkle and spank at the bridge and throaty, bell-like chime at the neck. This Greco weighs 9lbs 11oz, offering plenty of natural resonance, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a chunky soft V-shaped profile carve at the nut with rolled fretboard edges, rounding out to a fuller, C-shaped carve with more shoulder as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .915” deep at the 1st fret and 1.010” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the slender fretwire only exhibits light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-5. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. On the headstock, the nickel-plated Gotoh Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The back of the headstock retains the silver foil SE600 model sticker, and the four-bolt neck plate is embossed with the A79-prefix serial (translating to January, 1979).The original trio of Maxon-made Excel PU-100 black bobbin pickups are wired to a traditional Stratocaster control array and three-way pickup selector. The wiring harness retains all original full-size Japanese pots, and the solder joints are untouched. Plastics comprise the trio of bright white knobs and the yellowed one-ply pickguard. The six-point vibrato actuates smoothly and bounces quickly back to pitch, with block saddles and the original arm, and the nickel-plated hardware all has a light dusting of surface patina. The gloss finish is equivalent to Fender's Olympic White, with yellowing of the clear coat and a handful of tan lines on the back from previously removed stickers. Cosmetic wear is limited to a handful of minor nicks along the lower bout perimeter and on the back, some buckle rash around the vibrato cavity route, and finish checking at the edges of the neck pocket. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss, with just a few shallow marks along the profile length.A faux leather padded gigbag is included.
