This vintage photograph is offered for sale as a collectible item and conveys no transfer of copyright. 1976 Press Photo The American Freedom Train Engine No. 4449 begins its journey Railroads, old engine - Engine parts from all over the country were used to restore American Freedom Train Engine No. 4449 which begins a two-day Southern Railway journey on August 28 from Atlanta to Alexandria, Virginia. The first leg of the trip will end at Salisbury where the train will remain overnight. After the train completes its Washington exhibition in late September, engine 4449 will bring in back south to Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida. Before being restored to active duty, the engine sat in a Portland, Oregon city park. Flags flying, the American Freedom Train is on the move to the American people. The Bicentennial exhibit is powered by a GS-4 steam locomotive loaned to the non-profit American Freedom Train Foundation, Incorporated by the city of Portland Oregon.
