He labored in the minors for several years, with frequent call ups and small stretches in the majors to have accumulated 94 games worth of experience in the majors over nine years. In 1955, Williams built up enough talent with his bat to hit .317 in 153 games in double A ball along with 24 home runs, which seemed to signal his readiness for the Dodger ball club, but instead awakened the interest of the Orioles who selected Williams off waivers in June of of ‘56 who then quickly moved him to Cleveland and then back again with the Orioles which pretty much characterized the remainder of his playing days, traded from one ball club to another in moves that transferred the usual suspects from one club to another. With each club, he performed his role as a reliable bat but not much power, until his playing days ended in Boston when he was released. He is a member of the Hall of Fame, selected as a manager.
