It is dated 1954 and was signed by the third signature combination for this type, Deputy Governor Gerald K. Bouey and Governor Louis Rasminsky. They were only in office together from January 1, 1972 until February 1, 1973. Canada has long since dispensed with one & two-dollar bills in favor of coins, and no longer prints or circulates them. In 1954 when these notes first came out, some people fancied they saw a leering demonic face in the highlights of the Queen's hair. The engraving was changed during the earlier Beattie-Coyne signature combination to remove the "Devil's Face" and this is the "Modified Portrait". "Standard Catalog of World Paper Money" (General Issues 1368-1960) by Albert Pick. #76c. "The Charlton Standard Catalog of Canadian Government Paper Money", 9th Edition by J. E. Charlton. #BC38c. Face: D/G 9341779 • Black on red-brown underprint. • This was the first portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Engraved by George Gundersen. Back: Red-brown. • Quebec scenery engraved by H. P. Dawson. The Note: A veteran, soiled and folded, it has no edge or body tears and no pinholes. Canada no longer prints $1 or $2 notes, they have converted to coins.
