Description: 1970's ???????? Aeroflot Yak 40 Yakovlev Airliner Jet Airline Diamond Pin Badge 1970's ???????? Aeroflot Yak 40 Yakovlev Airliner Jet Airline Diamond Pin Badge Product Description : 1970's ???????? Aeroflot Yak 40 Yakovlev Airliner Jet Airline Diamond Pin Badge A very pretty silver metal pin badge from Aeroflot of the former Soviet Union. The badge face is 3cm wide and has a clasp style safety fastener to the rear. The badge features the Yakovlev 40 that entered service in 1968 and the Aeroflot logo is below. Historical Background Internal flights in the Soviet Union in the 1960's were largely served by piston engined aircraft. Aeroflot wanted to replace these aircraft with a more up to date turboprop design. Yakovlev were awarded the contract and considered many design variations, eventually settling on the Yak-40 that could operate in bad weather and on poor airstrips. The Yak 40 was in production from 1967-1981 and was sold throughout the world. By the time production ended in November 1981, the factory at Saratov had produced 1,011 aircraft. Yak-40s operated by Aeroflot had been the backbone of Aeroflot's local operations, flying to 276 domestic destinations. Postage and Packing : The item will be sent by airmail from The Czech Republic.
