Description: This is a 17.75" x 24" plastic campaign poster promoting the 1968 democrat presidential candidate, Hubert Humphrey, along with his running mate, Edmund Muskie. Humphrey had been selected by the establishment at the DNC in Chicago, after surging candidate, Robert Kennedy, had been assassinated in early June. Humphrey had been bloodied by that convention battle with anti-Vietnam War candidates like Eugene McCarthy and left-over Kennedyites. Plus, it didn't help him in the fall that another major democrat, George Wallace, was running as an independent, third-party candidate. Wallace was a longtime Alabama governor and became a major force to be reckoned with that year. He hurt Humphrey since both were democrats, siphoning off southern voters normally reserved for any democrat nominee. And Wallace hurt the republican nominee, Richard Nixon, because they were both conservative, law and order men. Wallace may be the reason the election was so close, with Nixon winning by a hair over Humphrey, 43.4% to 42.7%. In 1968, several different plastic posters were released for some reason, probably technology and price. We're listing a few of them at this time. This is in nice condition, but please look at our images to judge that for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. We are members of APIC selling only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. Shipping on this will be $5,50, first class with tracking, folded in an envelope. We'll also be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases, which we accomplish via a refund. 6273
