Description: Size 52 Inch× 23 Inch/132Cm×57Cm(Size after matt mounting) ARTIST Zhang Shanzi was a Chinese painter known depictions of tigers amidst atmospheric landscapes. Born in 1882 in Neijing, China, he was the elder brother of the painter Zhang Daqian. In 1903, he traveled to Japan and participated in the activities of the underground resistance movement known as the “Tongmenghui” (Chinese United League). After returning to China, he remained active in revolutionary movements, and served as a member on the presidential consultative committee after the founding of the Republic of China. Following the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937, Zhang created a number of anti-Japanese paintings with strong nationalistic themes. The artist died in 1940 in Chongqing, China. Today, three of his works are held in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Condition Technique = Painted on Rice paper Condition = Refer to all pictures, stain.
