Description: Up for sale this lovely 1967 Epiphone Riviera. This is the Epiphone counterpart to the ES-335 with the distinctive Epiphone appointments. These include the hourglass shaped headstock, mini-humbucker pickups, and frequensator tailpiece. 1960s Epiphones were built in the same factory and by the same people that built Gibson guitars in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Gibson bought the Epiphone company in the 1950s, and moved production to their Michigan factory. Starting about 1970 production went overseas to Japan and production quality went down with it. 1960s Epiphones are fantastic instruments and becoming more and more collectible. Essentially, the Epiphone lineup was transformed to provide a “cousin” guitar to their Gibson counterparts. Instead of the 330 you could buy an Epiphone casino made famous by the Beatles. Instead of 355 you could buy a Sheraton. Instead of 335 you could buy this guitar: Riviera. It’s a semi-hollow guitar with a maple block running down the center. This one has the narrower nut with Gibson had fully transitioned to by 1965. Epiphone started to make the switch a little earlier. It also has the later 60s features, including chrome parts, and which hat style knobs. All in all, I would say this is in very good vintage condition. It’s not mint but in pretty nice shape for its age. This includes some scratches on the body and the neck along with various scuffs and dings. Again, not perfect, but nothing terrible here. there are no headstock or neck breaks. The finish is completely original and black lights properly. It has a medium neck profile which fits very nicely in your hand. It comes in a later, Gibson USA case that is tan with pink lining as well as a shroud. One of the latches is missing and it has a wear and tear, but will do the job to protect the guitar very nicely.
