1966 Epiphone Sheraton E212T Vintage Semi-Hollow Guitar Royal Tan w/ Case

Description: Up for sale, a 1966 Epiphone Sheraton E212T in excellent condition and in perfect working order, finished in Royal Tan. The Sheraton represented the highest tiered thinline semi-hollowbody model offered by Epiphone in this era, manufactured by parent company Gibson at their Kalamazoo, MI factory. Made in sparingly small quantities across its 1959-1970 run (production only crested 100 instruments in the '67 model year), the lighter shade of Sunburst seen here, christened Royal Tan by Epiphone, increases the rarity of this example. The Epiphone equivalent of an ES-355 with upscale multi-ply body and neck binding, gold hardware, and pearl block inlays bisected by abalone Vs, the Sheraton is as visually stunning as it is tonally impressive. The original pair of hand-wound patent sticker mini humbuckers offer the sonic range and versatility of a 355, yet with a more articulate top end and bell-like chime. The guitar delivers a bold, shimmering bridge pickup sound with great midrange bounce and cut. There’s a rich growl when digging in, and each string is afforded equal presence. The neck pickup has a thick, woody bark, fat yet clear, and with both pickups engaged (and the neck Volume rolled back to taste) the guitar has a full-spectrum sound capturing the best qualities of both pickups. Weighing 7lbs 15oz, this Sheraton benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with low action, accurate intonation and 11-49 strings. The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve at the nut with round shoulders and a hair more heft up the fretboard, measuring .845" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The multi-ply bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard retains the original medium jumbo fretwire which has been leveled and crowned and shows no wear, playing effortlessly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The scale length is 24 3/4“, and the original nylon nut has Gibson/Epiphone's "transitional" mid-'60s width of 1.645". The headstock features Epiphone's ornate "tree of life" inlay, fitted with original pat. pending Grover Rotomatic tuning machines which turn smoothly. All of the electronics function as intended, and both mini humbuckers retain their original perfect patent stickers on the baseplates with untouched solder on the covers. The CTS pots have visible date codes from the 51st week of '65. The gold hardware includes a vintage-spec Gibson ABR-1 bridge with correct foundry stamp on the baseplate and era-specific nylon saddles. The bridge inserts had been previously enlarged, now cleanly doweled with maple (no touch-up) and fitted with Nashville/ABR-1 conversion posts to accommodate the correct bridge. The original Frequensator tailpiece is present. Plastics include the original quartet of reflector cap knobs, and the multi-ply bound dark tortoise pickguard complete with "E" Epsilon foil sticker. There is a small piece of missing binding on the inside edge of the guard. Visible through the bass-side F hole, the original blue rectangular Epiphone serial/model badge is present. The original Royal Tan gloss nitro lacquer finish is rich and saturated, and there are some small nicks along the outer-ply of the multi-ply binding framing the finish. Cosmetic wear is limited to a few dings and light scuffs on the back and some minor marks on top beneath the forks of the Frequensator, along with lacquer checking largely concentrated behind the bridge on top and between the pickups on the bass side. The neck profile retains its notably smooth ambered gloss, with one small touched-up chip central to the carve behind the 1st fret, and prominent ambering and checking of the neck binding. The original gray tolex hardshell case with blue plush interior is included. The case features functional latches and the original handle, with some wear on the lid. Also included is an exceedingly rare and original zippered case cover, which has aftermarket "Epiphone" text added to the top.
