Description: Naval cover for the USS Henley, DD-762, canceled on board on July 27, 1962. The cover lists relevant facts about the Sumner class destroyer. DD-762 was the third U.S. Navy ship named Henley. It was named for John D. Henley, brother of Captain Robert Henley, for whom the first two Henleys were named. John Henley was commissioned midshipman 14 August 1799, and served in a variety of roles including the War with Tripoli in 1803-04. He commanded the schooner Carolina during the British attack on New Orleans at the end of the War of 1812. Following the war he had various commands, finally dying on board the Vandalia while in command of the West India Squadron on 23 May 1835. Pictures are of the actual item you will receive.
