Many of its membershave made their mark in various music capitals of the world andhave returned to Seattle to participate in this all-out musical effort.Assistant Conductor Del Hartman is a graduate of the Universityof Washington School of Music, with previous training at GonzagaUniversity and in bands of the U. S. Navy. This young man witha horn is considered one of the West Coast's finest trumpet soloistsand is equally proficient in the performance of classics and modernjazz. Among his many brass students are some of the finest youngplayers in the area.The international flavor of this recorded program is designed toplease a wide variety of musical tastes and from the "MonorailTwist" to the Continental favorite "Greensleeves," this memento willenable each visitor to recapture the thrills and excitement of a greatWorld's Fair for many years to come.Among the soloists featured in this session are trombonists EarlKelley and Ken Cloud; trumpeters Del Hartman, Bill Cole, Don Smith,Roy Cummings and Les Beigel; reedmen Joe Adams, Ronald Phillips,Bob Blackie and Corky Corcoran; accordionist Frankie Sugia andpercussionists Howard Gilbert, Bill Kotick and Emil Hansen.Staff arranger for the Band is Bernard Press who had establishedfor himself a fine reputation as trombonist-arranger with severalof the nation's big name bands before joining the Souders danceorchestra in 1958."Colonel Bogey" was arranged by the Hollywood musical giant,Jeff Alexander who was born and raised in Seattle. Stan "WestSide Story" Keen, another native Washingtonian, is responsible for thenovel, highly effective treatment of "La Siene."
