Siege of Boston was conducted from Roxbury High Fort on the site now marked by this tower. Major General Henry Knox brought cannon from Ticonderoga overland to arm the fort for the siege in 1775. The Roxbury standpipe in Highland Park, a 120-foot high watertower erected in 1869, began falling into disrepair about 40 years ago when its lookout tower was closed to the public.
