At the time it was called "West" Germany because "East" Germany still existed. It was struck at the Stuttgart mint in 1955 to mark the 150th anniversary of the death of Friedrich Von Shiller on May 9, 1805. More on him below. It has been certified by the prestigious third-party grading service Numismatic Guarantee Corporation or NGC as Mint State 61. Weight: 11.20 Grams, 29 Millimeters, .625 Silver. Mintage: 199,000. He was a playwright, poet, and philosopher. Schiller developed a friendship with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. They frequently discussed issues concerning aesthetics, and Schiller encouraged Goethe to finish works that he had left as sketches.
