Description: SCROLL DOWN FOR DESCRIPTION, PHOTOS AND TERMS DESCRIPTION: Vintage original photograph, taken in July 1955, identified at "Nat's Birthday Party", Mr. Harry Roth is smiling in the middle facing the camera, his wife to his right drinking from a glass. From a huge photo album belonging to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Roth of 47 Duncan Ave, Jersey City, New Jersey, covering the years 1954-1955. We believe that Harry was the photographer for most of the images, which are all enlargements of 4x5, 5x7, 8x10, 11x14 and some even bigger, most with professional quality, printed on heavy stock paper. It's possible that Mr. and Mrs. Roth compiled the album for their daughter Phyllis Hannah (nicknamed "Pet" and "Pessie"), who became engaged to Avrum J. Shainmark during this time period, which was announced in The Jersey Journal on September 17, 1954. Avrum was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Isidore Shainmark of 429 Fairmount Ave in Jersey City. The engagement was announced at the Adelon Hotel, Long Beach, Long Island, at a party given in honor of the bride-elect's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hyman Roth of Long Beach. Avrum graduated from Lincoln High School and New York University, where he was a member of the Kappi Phi Kappa fraternity, and at the time of the engagement he was on the faculty at Newark Arts High School. Phyllis also graduated from Lincoln High School, then attended the University of Connecticut, and at the time of the engagement was a student at Jersey City State Teachers College. Other family names of people in this photo collection include Schneck, Sokolow, Goodman, and Barsky. Locations include the aforementioned Adelon Hotel, Camp Mooween on Red Cedar Lake in Conecticut, the Pineview Hotel in Fallsburg, New York, Mayfair Farms in West Orange, New Jersey, and the Catskills. Overall a wonderful glimpse into upper middle class Jewish family life in the 1950s. SIZE/WEIGHT: Approx. 7" x 3". CONDITION: VERY GOOD, with some glue residue on the back, and some yellowing from age.
