During the post-war boom, Massey-Harris surpassed Oliver, Cockshutt, Case and Minneapolis-Moline in ag equipment sales, but was still selling only half of the tractors that either John Deere or International Harvester did.In the 19509s, Massey-Harris’s achieved world leadership, driven by the immense popularity of its self-propelled combines. But MH’s tractor sales still lagged Deere and IH. While they enjoyed a reputation for being well built, MH tractors did not the power and features of their competitors. In an attempt to surpass its competitors, MH entered into a partnership with the cantankerous Harry Ferguson as a partner. Ferguson left in a dispute over the design of the first line of Massey-Ferguson tractors.
