The Games were held in Helsinki, the capital of Finland in the year 1952 . Helsinki had been chosen as the host of the 1940 Olympiad but they were cancelled due to World War II. Venue: The Fifteenth Summer Games were held at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Finland . The Stadium is located in the Toolo District , about 2 km away from the center of the Finnish capital Helsinki . This is the largest stadium in the country. The stadium is best known for being the Nucleus of the activities in the fifteenth Olympiad . However, the stadium was built for the 1940 Summer Games Participants: 4099 participants competed in the fourteenth Olympiad. Events: In the fifteenth Olympiad there were 149 events in 17 sports. The sports included in the program were athletics, basketball, boxing, canoeing, cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, football, gymnastics, hockey, modern pentathlon, rowing, shooting, swimming, water polo, weightlifting, wrestling and yachting. Medal Count: United States won the highest number of medals. They won 40 gold, 19 silver and 17 bronze medals which made a total of 76 medals. USSR won 22 gold, 30 silver and 19 bronze medals.
