Description: Large-format, highly detailed fold-out color lithographed map of the Far East, with an inset of Korea showing the battle line as of June 1, 1952. This map opens to a very generous 40" x 29". It is drawn on a scale of 1:7,500,000, and details include principal railways, airports, roads, canals, oil pipelines, oil fields, ruins, passes, water holes, and the Great Wall of China. The coverage area extends from Sumatra to Sakhalin, including the Philippines, the west part of Netherlands New Guinea, Viet Nam, Thailand (Siam), Laos, Cambodia, Formosa (Taiwan), India, Burma, Java, Malaya, China, Japan, the Mongolian Republic, Manchuria, and Korea. War had erupted on the Korean peninsula in June 1950, and the fighting raged until the armistice was signed ten months after this map was printed. The map also has good detail of Vietnam, where the First Indochina War was also underway as French forces battled the Viet Minh, led by Ho Chi Minh and its People's Army of Vietnam. Condition: This map is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. It folds to 8" x 6¼" and is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side.
