Description: Vintage 1949 Horologist's Timegrapher TIME-O-GRAF Manufactured by George W. Borg Corp.Distributed by Henry Paulson & Co. - Chicago As Found / As-Is - Powers Up and Runs - Details Below This is a lovely piece of history is a Time-O-Graf made in 1949 (according to patent dates) by George W. Borg, of Borg-Warner fame, at his postwar "Gibbs Division" facility in Delavan, Wisconsin. It is in lovely condition and well taken care of. The brown Bakelite case is quite appealing. It was marketed by Henry Paulson & Co. of Chicago. In fact, when these do come up for sale (which is extremely rare), they are more often branded as the "Paulson Time-O-Graf," though they still bear the George W. Borg name below it. This variation, not branded as a "Paulson Time-O-Graf," is the rarest.I'm including with your shipment a reprint of a full-page ad that appeared in the February, 1950 issue of The HIA Journal, which shows one of the Paulson-branded units. It is approx. 8" tall, with a 17" x 19" footprint, and weighs in at about 29 lbs. (which accounts for the high shipping cost).Your Time-O-Graf does power up and appears to function. When you switch it to "Record" mode, the motor runs and slowly feeds the paper, as it should, with the gear-driven mechanism. However, I am selling this AS-IS because I don't have the expertise or facilities to test it for you. If you have any questions or anything specific that you would like me to check, don't hesitate to message me. But, at least this will need some conservation work done if you intend to put it to actual use. All rubber parts (as pictured) have age hardening and cracking. The rubber roller that feeds the paper is all there, but it's flat on one side from age and storage, so it won't feed properly. The rubber-coated electric cord should NOT be used, as the rubber is failing and it's starting to expose bare wiring. It needs to be replaced. As far as I can tell, it is complete and all parts original except for 3 replaced screws that hold the motor in place. It was last used 50 years ago (see photo of maintenance log), and the ribbon is somewhat fragile with age. The spools are fine; they would just need to be re-wound with typewriter ribbon of the correct width. But the paper roll is still nearly full. The tubes will be removed, numbered, and carefully packed to prevent shipping damage. However, it is not possible to guarantee that vintage tubes will still function after shipping. A beautiful conversation piece and/or restoration project! PLEASE SUPERSIZE ALL PHOTOS, AND ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BUYING. I'LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER.
