Description: from Private Collection of French Haute Couture Memorabilia MIREF of PARIS House of Miref Vintage Powder Case by Miref of Paris, circa 1949 Offering for sale this extraordinary collectable from Miref of Paris compact with Raymond Peyote signed illustration featuring Newspaper Stand on Parisian street with blondie inside the stand, and two gentlemen on the sides, one with monocle pretending reading newspaper, but instead he is examining blondie Raymond Peynet is a famous French cartoonist who was born in Paris in the 1908. He is well known and recognized artist for having created humorous illustrations of the couple of lovers in 1940, that made him famous, which he represented through a variety of French mediums, including ceramics and women accessories. Miref made dozens of the compacts with Peyote cartons and, many French women became collectors just by trying to get some of them. The gold-plate on the compact is still shiny but with signs of wear. The upper lid made up in shape of dome from vintage lucite with Peyote Art. The original beveled glass mirror has good reflection, however it's covered with a tiny age spots. The powder well has a clear (transparent) glass-lucite base. The glass-transparent well contains original shifter [used] in a good condition. Overall, this compact is in excellent vintage condition with good hinge and closure. Measures: 2 3/4" x 5/8" / with dome of the upper lid: 2 3/4" x 6/8" The transparent base is made of a clear glass-lucite (of exceptional quality).
