Description: One (1) gold 2.5 Pesos coin from Mexico, dated 1945A beautiful gold coin from the Mexican Republic, featuring Miguel Hidalgo, a Mexican hero of independenceSpecs: .900 fine gold, 15.5mm, 2.1gAbout Uncirculated condition or better - little wear and strong lusterSlightly smaller than a dime A beautiful gold 2.5 pesos coin from Mexico, dated 1945. The obverse side of the coin features Miguel Hidalgo, a Mexican catholic priest and a leader of the independence movement. Decrying the poor treatment of native Mexicans by the Spanish elite, Hidalgo rallied an army of 90,000 farmers and civilians and marched against the Spanish. Though his army was defeated, and Hidalgo himself was executed by firing squad, his revolutionary spirit lived on and he became a symbol of the revolution. The reverse side features the coat of arms of Mexico, a golden eagle perched on a cactus, devouring a snake. The imagery is derived from an ancient Aztec legend - a god told the Aztecs to found a city on the spot where they saw an eagle eating a snake on a cactus - the city they founded on that spot is modern-day Mexico City. Each 15.5mm .900 fine gold coin will be in at least about uncirculated condition, with little wear and strong luster.
