Description: This copper medallion has a diameter of 36 millimetres and the reverse shows the uncrowned effigy of Edward VIII who was king of Britain from January 20 to December 11, 1936. When he acceded to the throne in January, preparations for new coins bearing his effigy began, but Edward VIII abdicated before the production of official coins to be issued in Britain and itscolonies was completed. Hence, this particular effigy designed by T.H. Paget, never entered circulation in Canada. The effigy itself is in ultra high relief which is reminiscent of ancient medallic art. This medallion was handed out free to everyone who had subscribed for the Vignettes of Royalty collection releasedin 2008 and 2009 on the Royal Canadian Mint website.
