The collection was drawn from material collected by Morgan in preparation of a biography, project which was later abandoned. George Moore was an Irish author, known for his naturalistic writings and as one of the first English language authors to be influenced by French realism, particularly the work of Emile Zola. Complete with the scarce front flyleaf of the dust wrapper, indicated to be all that was issued with the Macmillan London edition.
