1930s Mad Bear Indian Chief Red Jacket Gum Wrapper V253 Sioux Tribe Toronto Card

Description: This rare wrapper is one in a series of 50 issued in Canada by the CANADIAN CHEWING GUM CO. LIMITED Of Toronto Canada on the back side of there Red Jacket and Green Jacket Brands of Chewing gum. They are listed as V253 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue.. It should be mentioned that he only lists the Green Jacket brand so technically the Red Jacket wrappers are un-recorded I believe that this may be an earlier issue as this wrapper only mentions the Toronto Location, while other (and probably slightly later) wrapper mention, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver locations Although no guide that I know of provides an actual date of issue. I have assumed them to have been issue in the 1920’s or 30’s era as I have seen early correspondence from this company listing this brand name dated from that time period. There are actually two different variations of the Red Jacket Wrappers as well. One that was primarily red in color and features a Native American Head and shoulders image in a head dress on the label, and one that is primarily white in color and did not feature the Native American on the label. This one is the latter and lacks the Native head and shoulders image on the label. I have always found this variation tougher to find than the other. This Each wrapper features a portrait of an Native American Indian Chief, as well as a premium offer of a complete set of these Indian Chiefs on Cards for exchange of 15 of these wrappers (written in both French and English). The images used are the same as the ones used by the Allen & Ginter Company in their 1888 N2 Indian Chiefs Series, (Apparently they were based on paintings housed in the Library of Congress in the U.S.), Weber Bread, American Caramel Co and Ganong Chocolates also used the same images on cards they issued as well. This card features and image of a Mad Bear of the Lower Yanktonas Sioux Tribe. The wrapper measures 4 ½ inches by 2 ¼ inches approximately. The wrapper does have various creasing wear, and paper loss (probably from when it was originally opened up back in the day). I have scanned the front and back of the wrapper fairly large so you can determine the condition for yourself . Due to the lower population in Canada than in the US, print runs in Canada were much smaller compared with American Cards. (Because of this the majority of all Canadian non sports cards are far scarcer than cards issued in the US. I will be trying to list several EARLY TRADE & TYPE CARDS over the next few days (spread across different categories), including one or two that are unrecorded in any guide, that were put given away with Tobacco, Cigarettes , Caramel, Candy, Gum, Chocolate, Bread Coffee Tea Cereal and other products, covering such diverse subjects as Native American Indians , Baseball , Football, Boy Scouts, Ice Hockey, Golf, Presidents of the United States, NCAA and IVY League Colleges and Universities, Dog Breeds, Circus themes and many more. To view the other cards I have up on ebay please click on the “View Sellers other Items” Icon located on this page. It will take you directly to them. Due to my work schedule and distance to the post office I am only able to ship Monday Mornings. If I haven’t received payment for an item by Sunday evening, the item will have to wait until the next Monday to go out. Its unfortunate but unavoidable. If this doesn’t work for you I respectfully ask that you do not bid or buy. Thanks again. This will be mailed from the USA. For USA purchases I Can combine shipping. Please message me for details.
