Description: BEFORE YOU BID Please READ THE FULL ITEM DESCRIPTION and make sure you agree to the terms below***YOU ARE BIDDING ON Vintage RARE Furniture " Louis XV Style BURL OLIVE WOOD SALESMAN SAMPLE Bombe / Commode "Made in Italy Approx Size: 16.5"h. x 15.5" w. x 10.75"d.Approx Weight: 12.6 lbs.*** DESCRIPTION & CONDITION Up for your consideration is a very rare and unique salesman sample of a bombe/commode chest of drawers in a Louis XV period of French furniture design.As stamped on the underside, this item was "Made in Italy" probably sometime between the 1930s -"40s.This lovely little French Empire style mini commode/bombe sample features 2 drawers and an upper sliding flat writing surface that pulls out 8". It stands on wonderfully crafted cabriole legs at 16.5" high and it's fully finished in what appears to be Italian olive burl wood honey color patchwork veneer with darkened aged patina brass/bronze hardware.This lovely recent estate find is in overall great condition for its age. That said, there is some minor, typical age and handling related wear as expected but nothing that detracts from its beauty. Wear includes typical age related minor veneer seam "crackling" for a lack of a better word, where you can feel the seem (not bubbling) just minor shrinkage gapping. This can be detected by gently running your hand over the areas but not immediately noticeable to the eye. There is also some areas on the drawer fronts of "cracked" or split veneer and minor scuffs and small scratches on the lower portions of legs and here and there in other places on the piece. No big deal. There are odd shaped veneer patches in areas (refer to photos) that may appear to be past restoration repairs, but this was intentionally done as part of the burl wood defects design as also seen on the piece's top (photo #10). There are no makers marks to help identify it except for the stamp of country but this piece might have had a makers label at one point that is no longer present.This charming and again, rare little classic piece is a must have for any "Salesman Sample" collector. This piece was a "Sample" for what would be pieces made in a 47"w. x 14"d. x 29.5"h. size or larger. It is fully functional and can make a nice jewelry storage box or maybe a great pedestal for a modern or classic sculpture.
