Description: PLEASE LOOK AT PHOTOS Very Good Condition. This is an October 26, 1928 letter signed by F.D.R on his personal stationery from 49 East 65th Street, NYC. It is addressed to A.O. Sherman of Rye NY (See below). Letter details Roosevelt's powerful endorsement of Al Smith and opinions on various former Presidents and that "under Governor Smith our country stands far more chance of returning to the path blazed out for us by our greatest President, than under the materialistic and self-seeking advisers who surround the other candidate" ... "I know Governor Smith and I know that in his own way his interest in humanity, his intolerance of the oppression of the weak..." etc. He asks Sherman to write him back confidentially at his home in NYC. On the BACK OF THIS LETTER is a handwritten draft of Sherman's reply, which does not have his signature, but does share his opinions on the matter as well. It is dated November 2, 1928. He states "I would like to call your attention to the fact that your Mr. Ottinger's last successful election was... to votes against his opponent than to votes for him. The democrats should never have made such a choice as they did in that instance." Page is clean and bright; Roosevelt's signature is strong. Measures 7.25 x 10.5".
