She finished the distance in six hours, 20 minutes. She is the first American woman to accomplish this feat and she might have broken all previous records but for salt water affecting her eyes when the swim was half over. During the swim Mrs. Carson's only nourishment was a piece of lump sugar every hour. Photo measures 11.25 x 8.75 inches. Photo Is dated 1926.
