Published under the auspices of the Union of shooting societies of France and the Union of Gymnastic Societies of France Poster promoting the National Defence loan illustrated by Jules Adler, a painter born in Luxeuil-les-Bains, France. A wounded hairy man seems to congratulate the civilians depositing their money. It thus shows that even uncommitted women and men can participate in the war effort thanks to their financial assistance. As in most countries during the first and second world wars, France introduced a bonds program to fund the war effort. The French are known for their patriotic spirit, and the money amassed during the first few bonds campaigns surpassed the government's expectations. The loans from the campaigns were always accompanied by important advertising efforts which used every support available form postcards to posters.
