Description: A 1914-15 Star trio all correctly impressed to: 2959 PTE.-A.SJT-G. DUNCAN, GORD. HIGHRS. (on the Star), &2959 SJT. G. DUNCAN, GORDONS. Serjeant George Duncan of the 4th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, was killed in action in France on 23rd July 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He is commemorated under his new Territorial Force Army number of 200717. Soldiers Died in the Great War states enlisted at Aberdeen. He is recorded in the Aberdeen Roll of Honour as residing at 284 Hardgate, Aberdeen. The 1st/4th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, as part of the 51st Highland Division, took part in the attacks on High Wood, Somme from 20th to 25th July 1916. The medals are in very good unpolished condition with long original silk ribbons. There is a small rim knock on the BWM which is visible in the pictures showing the naming.I will supply copies of his Medal Index Card and pages from the medal rolls (which confirm his change of Army number) to the buyer.
