1913-P (TYPE ONE) INDIAN/BUFFALO NICKEL #3 VERY-GOOD OR BETTER

Description: 1913-P (TYPE ONE) INDIAN/BUFFALO NICKEL #3 VERY-GOOD OR BETTER CONDITION WITH ORIGINAL SURFACES The so-called Indian/Buffalo nickel was designed by sculptor James Earl Frasier (his “F” initial appears below the date), and it was coined from 1913 to early 1938. He used three Native Americans to model for the obverse: Iron Tail (Sioux), Big Tree (Kiowa) and Two Moons (Cheyenne). The reverse actually shows an American Bison rather than a buffalo! These coins are often considered our “Most American Coin”! The very first 1913 nickels placed the ‘buffalo’ standing on a raised mound with “FIVE CENTS” above rim level. It was soon realized that this would allow the denomination to quickly wear off, so new dies were prepared with the buffalo standing on a flat plain with “FIVE CENTS” recessed below rim level. The first coins with the new modified reverse were struck on May 10, 1913. The last Indian/Buffalo nickels were coined in 1938 - and only at the Denver, Colorado Mint. This coin represents one of the first 1913’s to be coined at the Philadelphia Mint. I feel the coin grades Very-Good+ with original surfaces that have not been tampered with. The April-2024 issue of Coin World Magazine shows a current Trends value of approximately $16.00 for the VG grade! I have collected coins since 1959, and the so-called “Buffalo Nickel” was always a favorite of mine. Due to age and health, I’ve decided it’s time for my coins to find a new home/caretaker! Buyer pays 63-cents shipping in a regular envelope with coins securely inside a flip. Due to using Ebay’s low-cost/tracked shipping, each lot will be shipped separately unless I deem it possible to combine an additional lot. Thanks for looking!
