Description: Featured here is the 1913-P Buffalo nickel type 1 reverse. Although the date has long since worn away, the coin can be easily dated by the raised mound reverse where “FIVE CENTS” is located. During 1913, this area was amended and recessed because the “FIVE CENTS” was a high point on the coin wearing away quickly. Recessed mounds are considered a “Type 2” reverse. We know this is a Philadelphia minted coin because of the lack of a mintmark in the same raised mound area.
