Description: Here is a high grade and interesting 1908 United States Shell Card Charm. This impressive piece is made of brass and is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This high quality token was issued by the Watchman Industrial School of Providence, Rhode Island in 1908. It is a fundraising piece meant to have the donor's photo or card inserted into the reverse side. This example is in pristine and unused condition. The general design of this piece recalls the U.S. shell card tokens of the middle to late 19th century. Token is not denominated and shows no stated value. Charm is neatly looped as made. This versatile piece could easily function as a bead or jewelry item. This token sports a repousse shell-coin type form with the obverse design being pressed through the reverse side. This makes for a high relief strike on one side of the planchet. Token is made of gleaming and lustrous brass. Surfaces are untoned and show a rich gold color. Perhaps this issue is made of thinly gold plated brass in the "rolled gold" fashion. It has a great look whatever its composition is. This piece has a diameter of about one inch. It measures 29mm by 33.5mm and weighs about 1.45 grams. This privately struck piece is not a product of the United States Mint. It is not legal tender; just an unusual old token. This piece is in beautiful Brilliant Uncirculated condition. It is super attractive and displays a rich yellow gold color with luster. The details and surfaces are quite pleasing.
