Description: 1904 Jerusalem CHESHBON PRATE HAMITZVOT on 613 Mitzvot by R. Zevi Aryeh Goldman LANGUAGE: HEBREW VG CONDITION, CLOTH COVERS Only edition of this two-part work on the positive and negative mitzvot from an ethical perspective by R. Zevi Aryeh ben Hayyim Shakhna Goldman of Mezritch. R. Goldman was also the author of Mezakeh ha-Rabim (Jerusalem, 1897), an ethical work. The first part of Heshbon Perate ha-Mitzvot serves as an introduction to the mitzvot, emphasizing care in their performance, weighing the details of mitzvot and the benefits of their performance, all well explained with introductions. The second part is comprised of relevant sayings from an ethical perspective, fear and love of the Lord, and the reasons for the reward of mitzvot being in the world to come. Heshbon Perate ha-Mitzvot has, on the verso of the title page, approbations from R. Jacob Saul Eliyashar and R. Elijah David Rabinowitz Teomim. The second part of the book, which has its own title page and foliation, is entitled Derekh Hayyim. On 44a-46a of this section is an ethical homily by the kabbalist R. Shalom Sharabi to be recited prior to the blowing of the shofar on Rosh HaShanah, intended to arouse the heart of man. It notes that it was customary to say this homily in the bet midrash Kehal Hassidim Bet El.
