Description: 18TH CENTURY ANTIQUE CHIPPENDALE CONNECTICUT CHERRY LINEN PRESS / CABINET - RARE GREEK KEY CARVINGSThank you for shopping with Bay Colony Antiques. We're a third generation family owned business furnishing homes all over the world. We aggressively pursue important antiques, decorative arts, and objects of interest for our most discerning clients. With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to offer for sale this fantastic 18th century antique Connecticut Cherry linen press. The cabinet has a well-defined crown with an exceptionally rare Greek Key carving below the cove. A closely related Connecticut chest with similar Greek key carvings can be viewed online in Yale's collection (item # 1930.2276). The cabinet has paneled Cherry doors, often referred to as blind doors, with two interior shelves. The shelves can slide right out of the grooves and there are 6 different height adjustments. The base cabinet has a rare 3 over 3 layout with select cuts of Cherry used for the faces. The feet were superbly executed with a nice scrolling pattern and dramatic carved spurs. We’re extremely ardent about Connecticut furniture and truly feel it’s one of the most underrepresented schools of early American cabinetry. Yale, Historic Deerfield, and the Five Colleges probably hold the best Connecticut furniture collections but outside of New England you’ll rarely see Connecticut furniture on display. The work surface has a set of hand cut dovetails on display and the doors are peg joined. The cabinet has pine secondaries and is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minor surface wear, a small piece of wood missing on the left side right below the mid molding, & the brasses were replaced with period accurate pulls. The script on the backboard is most likely the name of the original owner and shows this was made for a home in Chatham MA, a prominent fishing, shipping, and whaling town on the cape. This is without a doubt one of the finest Connecticut Chippendale cabinets that has surfaced in recent years. We'll surely be handling more expensive and sophisticated furniture but this one really got us excited because it's a unique example of 18th century coastal Connecticut Chippendale furniture. We don’t have the sizes on hand but will amend the listing next time we're at the warehouse. WELCOMEWe are a wholly owned family business in our third decade of continuous operation. All the items we offer to the general public are high quality estate pieces. We do not offer goods with significant flaws or defects. We completely avoid items with issues. You can expect the items we sell to have reasonable wear and tear. Due to the large volume of goods we deal in we cannot describe items in minutia. We do our best to give you an accurate condition report in our description of the items. We have expert woodworkers and re-finishers on staff to service any piece of furniture we offer. We represent all merchandise in absolute good faith and to the very best of our ability. Please ask all questions, including, but not limited to, shipping costs prior to purchase. SHIPPING & DELIVERIES We deliver within a 250 mile range of zip code 01105 for a low cost flat rate. We specialize in New York City and Boston deliveries at extremely reasonable rates. For items requiring shipping beyond our delivery zone, we offer freight or “Ground Services” shipping, depending on the size of the items. We ship anywhere within the Continental United States. Items will require packaging and palletizing for freight shipments. The buyer is responsible for the cost of materials only for this service. We perform this service without the cost of labor as an appreciation for your patronage. Freight class shipping is the fastest and most cost effective method of shipping large items. We can reach anywhere in America with a large shipment within 7-10 business days. We buy materials in bulk to save you excessive costs. The materials required for proper crating of items for their safe transit is so specialized we may need up to 7-10 business days to make sure we get absolutely what is required & do the best job possible. We go the extra mile by designing premium customized furniture crates for the ultimate protection of your purchase. We ship from our facility with a loading dock on a major trucking artery.
