The expedition starts with a voyage on the ship Fram and continues on with a fifteen months sleigh journey. When this text was translated from Norwegian to English, it garnered instant success and praise.Fridtjof Nansen was a Norwegian polymath who gained prominence throughout his life as an explorer, scientist, diplomat, and humanitarian. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for work which helped displaced war victims, particularly those from World War I. CONDITION Rebound in cloth with half morocco spines restored. Externally, smart. Good colour on leather with bright cloth. A few marks on boards. A bit of wear to the extremities, particularly to the bottom edge of Volume II. Some wear to the original leather binding. A few marks to paste downs in Volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with the occasional handling mark. Plates and illustrations are bright and clean. Volume I is missing a colour folded map to rear.
