Rafael Tuck and Sons was/is a publisher of fine books with high quality color plates. Mostly children's books. This edition of The Merry Wives was quite popular and that prompted another run in 1897 along with later editions as late as 1919, but this was possibly the first (there's some question on that) and much more rare. This also seems to be a presentation copy with an inscription that includes just the recipient's name and the 'date' of "Christmas 1895". It's pretty impersonal for a gift from a friend and it seems more likely that the publisher set some aside as gifts for, perhaps, important customers and business associates.
