The frontispiece heads Weeks' illustrated essay that opens the issue: "From the Black Sea to the Persian Gulf by Caravan." Charles D. Lanier's "Our National Game-bird" (Quail). Illustrated (6) by the able A.B. Frost. Part V of William Black's serial novel, with an illustration, The Handsome Humes, here first printed. Almost impossible to find today in its original first edition book form (1894). A new poem by Boston's own Annie Fields, Death, who art thou? Elizabeth Robins Pennell's "A French Town in Summer" with 21 illustrations by Joseph Pennell. Book reviews of note by Laurence Hutton on The Letters of James Russell Lowell; Henry B.
