Colonel Henry C. Bradsby, often credited as H.C. Bradsby, was a late 19th-century American historian and biographer. Many of his works are extensive local histories of various United States counties in Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, and Pennsylvania, several of which totaled more than a thousand pages. Bureau County was named for either Michel or Pierre Bureau, French Canadian brothers who ran a trading post from 1776 until the 1780s near where Big Bureau Creek joins the Illinois River. It was founded in 1837 and is located in the north-central area of the state. FORN-TUB-0055-XX-2408-JC1157
