Matson Fulton New York Onofri Troupe Stage Show Performance Letter In the last half of the 1800s, the touring and performing schedules of most traveling shows and entertainers were maintained by syndicate agents who represented groups of performers, lecturers, musicians, etc. One of the most prominent agents was E. J. Matson, manager of the Grand Opera in Syracuse, New York and leader of the Academy of Music for the New York State Circuit in Auburn, New York. This lot is a letter written from Matson to the manager of the opera house in Fulton, New York. The letter is a detailed attempt to get the Fulton Opera House to host the French Troupe Onofri. It includes descriptions of their wonderful pantomimes, beautiful costumes, and trick sets. It also outlines the quality of the promotional materials available for the show. The handwritten letter is signed by an assistant in Matson's name. The Onofri troupe was a troupe of mimes and comedians of Italian-Marseille origin, who arrived in Barcelona at the end of the 19th century. The group was made up of the father (Themistocles), five sons (Othello, Aquile, Poliuto, Telemachus and Orestes) and two daughters (Andromache and Argia).
