Description: Up for sale is a fascinating unlisted variety of an already extremely scarce note. It is an Fr 31 with Rosecrans-Huston signatures and the large, spiked red seal with blue serial numbers. Very few of this Fr number are known as not many were printed originally for the series. Beyond that, this is an incredible double Mule variety not listed in the Friedberg catalog. During Huston's tenure in office, all currency plates were assigned 4 digit plate numbers unique to the denomination and series. However, it was the practice back then to save usable plates from the previous signature and re-engrave the new signature into it. This note has a 3 digit front plate and 2 digit back plate, both of which were originally from the Bruce-Wyman printing. What is even more fascinating is that in this $1 denomination, the blue serial Bruce-Wyman notes were never released for circulation and were eventually destroyed. But the plates from that printing that was never released were used to print this Huston note. Probably the most interesting Mule variety I have come across. The note is professionally graded Very Fine-20 by PMG with notes of pinholes and minor discoloration which seem hardly worth mentioning, it does not detract from the note. The normal Fr 31 lists for $890 in CDN / Greensheet, and this double Mule would be considerably rarer. With the popularity of later Mules during the Burke/White transition, I wouldn't be surprised if this Mule was eventually recognized and given a catalog number. Don't miss your chance to pick up this scarce and so far unlisted double variety at a bargain price well under its book value. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
