Description: Hard to find, complete issue of Boston's Every Saturday for 13 September 1873 is in good condition. This is one of the later published issues of the weekly, which ceased publication, and merged with its rival cross-town weekly, The Living Age, at the end of October 1874. 27 pages. Some highlights I find include: British author Lady Juliet Pollock's essay headed "The Imaginative Literature of America." Nine pages. Much here on American gothic related authors, most especially, Nathaniel Hawthorne. Russian writer Ivan Turgenev's story, "Ellice." See photo #2. Although the source of Turgenev's story is not attributed here, this appears to be the first American printing of the story that first appeared in English in the Dublin University Magazine in June and July of this year, translated by Isabella Conolly. It's a translation made from a volume of stories by Turgenev that had first appeared in French in 1869. Eight pages.
