Original publisher's blindstamped red cloth, upper board decorated in black and gilt lettered. Original yellow endpapers. Verso of upper fe with ink manuscript gift inscription from Thomas Osborne Bateman to his son Frederick Osborne Fitzherbert Bateman dated Dec 27. 1872, identifying a paragraph on pp89 relating to the family. Binding in good used condition, rubbed and scuffed to extremities, corners bumped and abraded, ink manuscript to upper board, lower board darkened to lower half. Contents clean, if a little toned, with occasional minor spots and marks, ink line highlighting the paragraph relating to the Bateman family, recto of frontispiece browned. Upper endpaper joint cracked, ink manuscript inscription as noted above.
