Free Russia and The Switzers are both travel works. With a colour frontispiece to volume I of Her Majesty's Tower and to both volumes of Free Russia. A mixed edition set. With Her Majesty's Tower being, volume I the sixth edition (1870) volume II the fifth edition (1870), volume III edition not stated (1871) and volume IV edition not stated (1871). Volumes III and IV of Her Majesty's Tower appear to be first editions. Both volumes of Free Russia are first editions dated 1870. The Switzers is a first edition dated 1872. William Hepworth Dixon was an English historian and traveller. He is notable for organising London's Great Exhibition of 1851. CONDITION In uniform half calf bindings with marbled boards. Externally, very smart. Patches of slight rubbing to the extremities and to the spines, particularly the head and tail. Small patches of rubbing to the joints. Small loss to head of front joint to The Switzers. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Small creases to top outer corner of a few pages to volume I of Free Russia. Light spotting to the first and last few pages to all volumes and the odd spot throughout.
