Description: This is an 1861 Civil War identification tag or what became known as a “dog tag”. As far as I know through research, it is a Civil War Soldier ID dog tag. There is nothing on the back as this medal and it may have never been issued. These are the first of their kind and the first time that ID tags or dog tags were ever used.
