Description: Early Original Antique Ambrotype Photo in RARE OVAL Gutta Percha Case With Classical Pastoral Scene, Taken c.1855 DESCRIPTION: Nice early antique ambrotype image taken during the heyday of popular photography, c1850 - 1860. Image is fairly clear. This has great mid-1800's New England subject matter, and young man has long black beard. Set in a nice 1/9 plate brass mat, and in a RARE, FANCY gutta percha hard rubber Union style case. Rare classical/pastoral themed gutta percha case, with young man, pretty young woman with long flowing hair, dog on both sides, etc. Very fine detail in the case and themed depiction!! A very rare, desirible case because of the depiction, AND ANY OVAL CASE IS UNIQUE AND ALWAYS DESIRIBLE!! Case is in excellent condition, except for a large chip on the side around the clasp. Also, no velvet plush, which could be replaced. Still, while not perfect it is rare and a great place holder in your collection.
