1850s #11A, AUGUSTA, GA TO NEW ORLEANS, 1852 FOLDED LETTER, SUGAR ORDER, DETAILS

Description: Probable Scott #11A folded letter cover, but with strong stamp details. Stamp tied by a blue Augusta, Geo. FEB 13 postmark. Addressed to: Buchannon Carroll & Co., New Orleans. The letter dated February 13, 1852 is an order for sugar. The Augusta retailer orders several quality classes of sugar: 'fully fair, fully choice, and fully fancy'. He also defines fancy sugar: "What we mean by fancy is the very finest ? sugar sold in your market (not clasified [sic]) (he probably means 'calcified')." Near the end of the letter the retailer changes the subject. "What do you think of Bacon at present prices?" The letter was received by Buchannon Carroll on 2/18, and answered 2/23. Please see my other covers of the 1851-1861 3c Washington being offered now.
